Do you love looking at the stars at night, contemplating the majesty of the Universe? Are you interested in the cosmic dawn, dark energy and the origins of life, or curious about how the proliferation of satellites in low Earth orbit will impact our skies? If any of these pique your interest then this fascinating ASAIN event is for you!

The Square Kilometer Array Observatory (SKAO) is a next-generation radio astronomy-driven Big Data facility that will revolutionise our understanding of the Universe and the laws of fundamental physics. Enabled by cutting-edge technology, it promises to have a major impact on society, in science and beyond.

Our keynote speaker, Prof. Jessica Dempsey is a globally recognised radio astronomer and science leader, who has just begun her appointment as the next Director-General of the SKA Observatory.

With expertise in submillimeter instrumentation, wide-field surveys, and data-intensive science, she is also a member of the Event Horizon Telescope team that captured the first image of a black hole. Prof. Dempsey was the first Australian female scientist to work at the geographic South Pole and has led astronomical missions in some of the world’s most extreme environments.

A passionate advocate for inclusive science, she champions ethics, equity, and leadership transformation in STEM, inspiring future generations of girls and women in science and innovation.

We will also hear a fascinating talk on ‘Dark and Quiet Skies’ the increasing challenge of Starlink and other satellites proliferating in Low Earth Orbit and, as always, a networking opportunity with the ASAIN and Swiss astronomy communities.
