Upcoming: Bridging Science and Sight, with Prof. Martin Zinkernagel
Date: Thursday 8th of May, 2025
Location: Sitem-Insel, Bern

ASAIN's first community event will be with Swiss/Australian Prof. Martin Zinkernagel, Director and Chief Physician of the Clinic for Ophthalmology, University Hospital of Bern.
Ophthalmology is a small yet vital field of medicine, and both Switzerland and Australia are home to a highly active community of ophthalmologists and vision scientists. The eye is a uniquely fascinating organ—not only does it process a significant amount of sensory information for the brain, but it also presents a remarkable combination of optical, mucosal, and neural components. Furthermore, its accessibility makes it an ideal subject for imaging and targeted drug delivery, both in clinical practice and laboratory research.
This talk will take the audience on a journey into the complexities of the eye and the latest advancements in ocular research. It will also highlight the academic and professional ties between Switzerland and Australia in the field of ophthalmology.

The event will take place at the SITEM Insel (Swiss Institute for Translational and Entrepreneurial Medicine) in Bern with a short introduction to the work of the centre and the possibility of a tour for those interested.
ASAIN community events are an opportunity to hear from an interesting member of the Swiss/Australian academic and innovation community and meet other members of the network.
