Unlocking Innovation Funding
How Innosuisse and Eurostars Can Support Your Projects
For Australian researchers and professionals in Switzerland, tapping into the right funding can be the key to transforming innovative ideas into a reality. Whether your focus is on local industry collaboration or international projects, two excellent funding instruments—Innosuisse and Eurostars—provide avenues for such support and growth.
Innosuisse:
Innosuisse is Switzerland's national agency for funding science-based innovation. It aims to foster collaboration between academic researchers and industry partners. Innosuisse offers various funding schemes depending on whether you are at the initial research stage or ready for commercial implementation. To find the correct funding program for you, visit the Innosuisse guide and follow the prompts. Beyond funding, Innosuisse also offers advice on how to connect with national and international partners here.
Tips for a Successful Innosuisse Application:
- Plan ahead: Project submissions are evaluated nine times a year; aim to submit at least six weeks before the deadline to ensure your application will be considered for the next round.
- Learn from feedback: Applications are reviewed by two independent experts within 6-8 weeks. Don't be discouraged if your application is rejected or given a low rating! You can revise and submit several times. Politely request feedback and, if possible, arrange a call with the reviewers to gain insights for improvement.
Eurostars/Eureka
Eurostars is a fantastic option if you’re looking to collaborate beyond Switzerland. This research initiative involves 41 European countries, including Switzerland, but you must meet specific eligibility criteria. The leading project participant must be a small or medium-sized enterprise (SME), and your consortium should include members from participating countries. While organisations from non-participating countries (i.e. Australia) can join, funding is only available for those in member states.
Finding Project Partners:
- Search the CORDIS database to find partners involved in third-party funding using keywords related to your project.
- Use networking platforms like the Enterprise Europe Network and Crowdhelix to connect with potential collaborators.
- Attend brokerage and matchmaking events - check the EEN event calendar for opportunities both within and outside of Switzerland.
