Have your say

The Australian Government Department of Industry, Science and Resources is seeking public feedback on the Strategic Examination of Research & Development (SERD) in support of the Future Made in Australia policy.

Consultation is open until the 11th of April, 2025.

Background

The SERD has been commissioned by the Australian Government to provide an evidenced-based assessment of how Australia can strengthen its overall research and development (R&D) competitiveness. Led by an independent expert panel, the examination will deliver a robust action plan to secure Australia’s future prosperity by strengthening our R&D system.

The examination will find out how Australia can build a resilient and prosperous future through R&D by:

  • getting more value and impact from our investment in research
  • harnessing and growing business investment in R&D
  • maximising the contribution of science and R&D to support national priorities and new industries.

Consultation

Following the announcement of the Terms of Reference and the appointment of the independent expert panel in December 2024, the SERD has released its discussion paper. Consultations on the panel’s discussion paper is open until 11 April 2025. Both organisations and individuals are encouraged to respond.
